HA dermal fillers work through several key mechanisms:
Volume Restoration:
HA dermal fillers create a scaffold-like effect, placed deep on bone, deep fat pads, or superficial fat pads.
This supports the natural depletion of our fat pads as we age.
HA dermal filler can support our facial shape as natural changes occur through boney reabsorption of our skeleton, ageing ligaments and skin changes.
Biocompatibility:
Being a naturally occurring component of the skin, hyaluronic acid is is most commonly tolerated by the body.
Each filler also has specific rheological properties which influence integration into the tissue as well as their longevity.
Gradual Breakdown:
HA fillers are designed to gradually break down over time through natural metabolic processes. This allows for a subtle, natural-looking transition as the filler diminishes, and many people appreciate the option of touch-ups to maintain their results.
What to Expect During Treatment
Enhancing facial features through fillers is often referred to as “beautification”. This involves refining the shape and structure of features to achieve a more aesthetically pleasing look.
For instance, fillers can enhance the fullness of the lips, and define the cheekbones.
Beautification typically focuses on enhancing one’s overall appearance rather than directly addressing the signs of ageing.
On the other hand, targeting the visible signs of ageing with fillers is known as “restoration”.
As we age, our skin loses elasticity, volume, contour and hydration. Resulting in increased skin laxity/sagging, hollowing, and the formation of wrinkles.
Fillers can effectively address these concerns by replenishing lost volume, smoothing out fine lines, and restoring a youthful glow to the skin.
Beautification and Restoration are concepts that are often rooted in the idea of “golden ratios, which are mathematical proportions that are believed to create beauty and harmony in facial structure.

Why Choose Hyaluronic Acid Dermal Fillers?
Achieving the right balance in the cheeks involves understanding the "ogee curve," characterized by an 'S' shape in females and sharper more defined angles for the masculine. Cheek fillers (including pre-articular fillers) can effectively restore curvature and definition to the upper face. Providing cheek support can also soften the appearance of nasolabial folds and jowling- bringing harmony between the upper and lower face.
Firstly, lip filler can look natural!
When considering lip filler, your natural lip shape, size, and facial structure will be assessed along with your ideal lip aesthetic.
Lip filler can positively enhance your overall facial aesthetic, giving you a hydrated, and balanced lip from every angle.
Full, well-defined lips are a hallmark of youth. As we age, our upper lip may elongate, and we often lose hydration, volume, and definition. Enhancing your pout might require just a small amount of filler, or several sessions to “build up” lip volume (particularly if you do not naturally have much of an upper lip to begin with).
Rest assured, there are no "duck lip" treatments here.
(This often happens when the side profile is not considered, when increasing lip volume.)
These are the lines that run downward from the corners of the mouth. Loss of volume in this area can lead to collapse or sagging around the mouth. Filler in the oral commissures can help lift downturned mouth corners.
With age, the corners of the mouth may droop, creating a "sad" or tired expression.
Adding volume in this area helps to provide structural support to the lower face, reducing shadowing and depth of these lines.
Often the chin is one of the most transformational treatments, as it has an effect on dimension, depth, and facial ratio. Especially when combined with jawline filler.
Chin filler may be discussed as part of your lip consultation too; as it is important to assess your surrounding tissue to ensure treatments blend and respect your natural features.
Furthermore, assessment of your mentalis (chin) muscle may also support your chin filler treatment outcome.
Jaw filler can effectively build and restore facial shape. The projection of your cheek in relation to your jawline has a crucial role in achieving a balanced and harmonious face shape.
Jawline filler can significantly improve the appearance of jowling. In order to achieve your desired results, chin filler may be considered- particularly in relation to elongation of the jawline.
Nasolabial fold filler is designed to address the visible lines that extend from the sides of the nose down to the corners of the mouth, commonly known as laugh lines.
As we age, our bony skeleton begins to reabsorb, increasing the appearance of ‘hollowing’.
Restoring this area can often soften expression, give a lifted appearance and improve balance in the lower face.
Usually a lack of volume in the cheeks/midface attributes to the appearance of the NLF.
Tear trough dermal fillers specifically target the hollows that form in the area beneath the eyes, extending from the inner corners to the mid-cheek. This region can create a shadowing effect that makes us appear more tired than we actually are.
Cheek/Mid-face filler often supports the appearance of the tear trough, so it may be considered or recommended first.
It’s important to treat the tear trough area delicately, and the area is usually undertreated during the initial session to allow for the hydrophilic properties of filler (potential expansion)-much like letting a loaf of bread rise.
A follow-up appointment may be necessary four weeks later to assess and add any additional volume if needed.
Volume loss in the temples can lead to sagging brows, creating a tired, angry, or older appearance. Temple fillers can produce a "liquid facelift" effect by lifting the brows and giving a rejuvenated look.
The beauty of temple fillers is its ability to subtly improve the overall shape of your face without drastic changes, resulting in a natural and enhanced appearance.

FAQ's
At Face Time Aesthetics, we have a high standard of care; to ensure your results match your unique facial structure. We want you to ‘look like you’; a refreshed, glowing version of you!
The most common reason people are nervous about dermal filler is the dreaded “duck lips”, overfilled cheeks, or a complete alienation of features. Respecting your natural beauty is a fundamental responsibility that Vanessa takes seriously to avoid unwanted outcomes.
Vanessa will discuss your individual anatomy and expectations to ensure the best treatment plan is created with you.
Medical contraindications that will exclude you from dermal fillers are as follows (not limited to): pregnancy, breast-feeding, cancer and autoimmune diseases, active infections, sensitivity/allergy to any component of dermal filler including lidocaine, bee or wasp sting allergy, history of anaphylaxis, vaccination within 2 weeks, dental surgery 2 weeks.
Downtime will vary depending on your individual response.
Some mild swelling or redness can occur.
You may bruise. This can sometimes be unavoidable due to the vascularity of the face.
Cross-linking creates the gel we know as HA dermal filler.
1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether
BDDE is a biocompatible cross-linking agent.
Cross-linking refers to the process of chemically bonding the hyaluronic acid molecules together, which affects the filler’s properties.
People often get confused about botulinum toxin A (Botox is a brand name) and “filler” – what goes where.
Botulinum Toxin A temporarily reduces facial expression to help decrease the formation of static lines/wrinkles. Dermal filler on the other hand works by “filling in” or plumping areas of your face that have lost volume and/or need to be smoothed out.
It is important to remember that longevity can vary from person to person, but each type of filler has a longevity estimate, and will depend on the area of the face being treated.
Generally speaking longevity can be improved with professional skin care, and in-clinic skin advanced skin treatments.
- Avoid taking anti-inflammatories (such as aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac) for 3 days prior to treatment (unless this has been prescribed by your doctor) as this increases the risk of bruising.
- Alcohol, fish/ fish oils, St. John’s Wort, Gingko Biloba, Vitamin E should also be avoided for 3 days prior to treatment to decrease the risk of bruising.
- If you are prone to bruising, taking arnica orally for a few days prior to treatment may help.
- If you are unwell on the day of your appointment, rescheduling is imperative.
- Ensure to inform of any changes in your medical history.
- If you suffer from cold sores and are choosing to have lip filler, please ensure you start taking anti-viral tablets 2 days prior to the procedure.
- Avoid heavy exercise directly prior to your appointment.
- Avoid heavy alcohol consumption 24 hrs prior.
- You should continue with a healthy diet and drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated.
- Client’s wanting added discretion are advised to book appointments when it is possible to take a day off work. Even though dermal fillers are a minimally invasive procedure, taking 24 – 48 hours of downtime allows for any redness and swelling to subside naturally before returning to work or normal activities. If you do experience bruising, arnica cream will speed up the recovery process.
In some cases yes! In some cases no! (Lip filler- usually not).
Please understand that you may have downtime post treatment due to the risk of bruising and/or swelling. This is part of a natural healing process. If you are NOT prepared to have bruising and/or swelling please carefully consider if this treatment is for you.
Not everyone will experience bruising and/or swelling; but Vanessa can not predict or have full control over this factor.
We all want to look good on those special occasions!
It is advised to book 4 weeks minimum before your special occasion. This timeframe allows you can come in for review to ensure your desired outcome is achieved and tweak if needed.
If you are planning on getting married, it is better to be treated much sooner than 4 weeks prior.
Results with dermal filler can be seen immediately. However, your full results will be assessed at 4-6 weeks post treatment. This gives your body a chance to integrate the filler into your tissue, which can take up to 6 weeks.
Please have patience with your results. Subsequent appointments and additional product may be required to achieve your final result.
Minimal to moderate discomfort may be experienced. The good news is that almost all injectable filler syringes are pre-loaded with local anesthetic making the procedure much more comfortable.
HA filler is classed as a medicine and there are risks that need to be consented for prior to your treatment.
A vascular occlusion is a RARE but real complication that can you legally consent to before having filler, you will also consent for the dissolving agent of HA Filler (yes it can be dissolved) so that if an emergency situation happens, the right steps can be taken to reverse and minimise further complication.
Benefits of Cross-Linking:
- Longevity: Cross-linked HA fillers tend to last longer in the tissue because the network structure resists enzymatic degradation by hyaluronidase, the enzyme that breaks down HA in the body
- Viscosity and Elasticity: The cross-linking process enhances the filler’s viscosity and elasticity, allowing it to maintain shape and provide a more natural feel when injected.
- Controlled Release: The cross-linked structure allows for a controlled release of HA, which can contribute to gradual and natural-looking results
